TRAVEL AROUND Getting around London is easy as the city manages a comprehensive transportation network. London's Metropolitan line, known as "Tube", was the world's first underground railway. It runs every day from 5.30 pm until midnight and the fares are based on a zone system. Buses are widely available and are a good way to see the town. Each numbered route is listed on the main stop, and buses display a large number on the front along with their end destination. Night Buses are recognizable from the prefix "N" to their route numbers. They run from 11 pm to 5 am on a more restricted route than day buses, and do not accept Travelcard like day buses as the fares are slightly higher. River Boat offers sightseeing cruises along the Thames where you can observe the Hampton Court, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower Bridge. The city's renowned black cabs aren't today all black, but all of them bear the distinct White Hackney Carriage licence plates which warrant the chauffeurs' knowledge and proprieties that characterize this safe (but most expensive) mode of transportation. Mini cabs are available and are a cheaper alternative to black cabs.
